The effects of ambient air pollution on pregnancy are difficult to assess because of the number of parameters and pollutants requiring study, as well as the numerous confounders and sources of bias. The rate of premature births seems the only reliable outcome, and analysis shows that it increases with the levels of fine particles and ozone in the air.
