Cyclamed is an association created in 1993 by the pharmaceutical industry to manage unused drugs from French households. Unused drugs must be considered as special waste and eliminated by incineration. A recovery rate of 63% for these drugs 23 years later reflects better information and involvement of patients and professionals. Continuation of this trend requires investigation of different methods, such as extending shelf life, limiting large-size packaging, and matching duration of prescription to packaging.
