The death of my epileptic daugther can help the cause Volume 21, issue 2, avril-mai-juin 2009

Author

A higher death rate in epilepsy is well accepted. In France, epidemiological studies and specific research programmes have been initiated to better understand the clinical and fundamental aspects of the disease. This text focuses on the Human perception concerning death in epilepsy. However essential this may be, it is rarely studied and not well understood. This text has a double goal ; a testimony and a recommendation guide. Based on a true story, it relays the experiences of a bereaved mother and her self-taught skills on topics like “accepting death”, “managing feelings of guilt”, “understanding the bereaved individual”, “relating to the bereaved family” and “family needs”.
