This paper reviews the main studies which have evaluated precisely cognitive functions in rolandic epilepsy. There are very few longitudinal data on the cognitive evolution of these children, particularly in relationship to the paroxysmal electroencephalographic activity.
The difficulty to demonstrate direct effects of the epileptic EEG discharges on some cognitive functions and on learning, as occurs in some cases, is discussed.
