Focal seizures in infancy have only recently been recognised [1, 2], and it is clear that ictal characteristics are difficult to recognise as such, without ictal electroencephalogram (EEG) recording before the end of the first year of life [3]. Focal epilepsy can be confirmed relatively easily when focal seizures of a single type are combined with neuroradiological evidence of a focal lesion affecting the same area.
