Answers

(1) Valproic acid monotherapy has been shown to elevate levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone in several studies.

(2) Serum concentrations of valproic acid and gender are probably not associated with subclinical thyroidism. However, subclinical hypothyoridism may occur more frequently in the first four years of valproic acid treatment.

(3) Levels of free T3 and T4 usually remain unchanged following valproic acid monotherapy.
