A 73-year-old woman presented with widespread rash, unsteady gait, and reduced consciousness. She had a previous diagnosis of peripheral spondylarthritis and treatment with sulfasalazine was initiated at 2 grams per day. Six weeks later, she experienced fever and a maculopapular erythema (figure 1A) affecting the abdomen, torso, and face with mucosal ulcerations.
