Mycetoma is a chronic, progressively destructive, inflammatory (granulomatous) disease due to aerobic filamentous actinomycetes (actinomycetoma), as well as fungi (eumycetoma); it was recently considered as a neglected tropical disease, typically affecting low-income communities [1-3].
