We previously reported a patient with malignant melanoma (MM) occurring on Nagashima-type palmoplantar keratosis (NPPK), suggesting, for the first time, that NPPK can predispose to MM. In that report, NPPK was diagnosed on the basis of characteristic clinical manifestations and DNA sequencing to verify intact SLURP-1 (Secreted LY6/PLAUR Domain Containing 1), thereby excluding Meleda disease [1].
