In clinical virology practice, potentiel application are large, notably because immunofluorescence is a widely use technique. However, technical procedures needs to be adapted in order to detect viral components (antigens, nucleic acids) presents in cytoplasm or nucleus of cells or to quantify infected cells in clinical specimens. Evaluation of antiviral resistance (Herpesviridae) or direct detection of virus in specimens represent two applications in routine laboratory use.
