Summary : Alcohol is a good vehicle because of its numerous physico-chemical qualities. Therefore, 568 marketed drugs taken from the 1998 Vidal dictionary contain alcohol in their formula. When thoroughly analysing the summary of the product characteristics, we noticed that a large number of information on the alcoholic content of the drugs was missing either for the physician or for the patient. This lack of information was found in different columns : formula, special warnings, special precautions for use, driving and use machines, side effects. Once the quantity of alcohol dispensed and given over a 24 hours period was calculated, we noticed that high levels were founded for quite a few marketed drugs. It is therefore important to warm specifically the patient and the prescriber of this information. |
Keywords : alcohol, drugs, alcoholic strength, special warnings. |
