INTRODUCTION Interleukin-9 (IL-9) is a pleiotropic cytokine secreted by activated Th2 lymphocytes and possibly involved in asthma pathogenesis. Both human and mouse genetic studies point to IL-9 and its receptor as candidate genes for asthma susceptibility [1-3].
