Summary : The drinking water treatment plants of the greater Paris metropolitan area have as their principal sources of raw water the Seine and its tributaries (the Oise and Marne). To verify the efficacy of existing disinfection systems against “emerging” infectious agents ( Campylobacter, parasites and viruses), we conducted a one-year monitoring campaign upstream and downstream from Paris, in various climatic conditions. The results show low levels of parasites and of hepatitis A virus, but substantial peaks of Astrovirus, Rotavirus and Norovirus GII in raw water. The multibarrier treatment plants are nevertheless able to control them.

Keywords : emerging risks, water microbiology
