Summary : The study was carried out in the W National Park of Niger located in the southwesten part of the country. The main aim was to make a mapping and description of vegetation types in this area. The traditional method of digitalization using Landsat ETM+ image was used. The classification was validated with the phytoecological data. A total of 19 vegetation types were defined with savanna, gapped bush and vegetation on outcrops being most widespread and covering 41, 19, and 16%, respectively. The vegetation map resulting from this study will be used as a support for drawing up an efficient program for sustainable management of this protected area. It will also be used as a reference for future assessment of vegetation dynamics. |
