Budgets for water and salts in the irrigated district of Kalâat Landalous (Tunisia)

Summary : The main objective of this study was to assess the water and salt budgets in the Kalaât Landalous district for two consecutive hydrological years (2006-2007 and 2007-2008). The obtained results showed a clear desalinization process. In fact, yearly off-site salt amounts were higher than input salt amounts. Still, seasonal salt accumulations could be observed and were recorded. These accumulated salt quantities were principally induced by an excessively high level of evapoconcentration.

Keywords : irrigated district, salt balance, Tunisia, water balance
