Summary : This work aims at highlighting the contribution of the hydrogeomorphological method in the mapping of the Sidi Bel Abbes (North West, Algeria) flood plain. Developed for the last twenty years, this method made it possible to identify the main overflow points of the Mekerra river with preferential flow axes and to delineate flooded and non-flooded areas. Such a work constitutes a tool of territorial planning which makes it possible to better take urban flood risk and economical development of the region into account.

Keywords : Algeria, cartography, hydrology, geomorphology, flooded zones
