Summary : The phenology of 28 woody species in the W national park, Niger, is analysed. The phenological stages monitored are leafing, flowering and fruiting. According to the phenological characteristics, the species are classified into 4 groups: evergreen, semi-evergreen, deciduous with a short fruiting period and deciduous with a long fruiting period. The phenological stages are under the control of variations in air moisture determined by flows of the monsoon. Therefore, bushfires lit from October to December cause regrowth of green plants used by fauna as food during the dry season. The periods during which such regrowth can be effective varies according to the geomorphology of the region.

Keywords : hygrometry, Niger, phenology, rainfall, woody species
