Summary : A pollen analysis of honey sold in the city of Cotonou was conducted on a total of 47 honey samples, bought in pharmacies, supermarkets and some small shops. The samples were treated using the method described by Erdtman, followed by microscopic observation. A total of 43 taxa of honey were identified. The specific richness of the investigated honey varied from 1 to 26 taxa. The identified pollen spectrum of honey confirmed their soudano-guinean phytogeographical origin. Based on their botanical origin, all the samples were subdivided into two groups : one group composed of 10 samples from gallery forests (40 taxa) and the second with 37 samples, from the soudano-guinean savanna zone (19 taxa). The geographical or botanical origin as indicated on the label matched with the results of pollen analysis except for 7 honey samples. |
