Summary : This survey aims at examining the strategies used by farmers to diversify their activities towards the production of milk. This stage is fundamental to centering the initiatives of actors and to optimizing the impact of policies fostering future regional integration. Forty-six farms including the four types of farms found in the Bobo-Dioulasso periurban area were surveyed. The analysis shows that the milk production emanates primarily from low input systems, while the marginalization of market-oriented systems is called to continue. The survey brings to light several initiatives that participate in the diversification toward dairy activity. These initiatives should be strengthened and monitored since some might present environmental and/or biodiversity risks. |
