Author(s) : Emmanuel Biang Nzié, César Kapseu

Summary : Through selection, we identified sugarcane (Sacharum officinarum) varieties with good yields, resistance to borers (Eldena saccharina Walker) and with higher than 15% fiber content (critical level for factory energy self-sufficiency). The study was carried out during eight sugarcane campaigns, and the following varieties gave good yield results: B70.462, B46.364, B70.532 and Co740 in decreasing order. In terms of borer resistance, the results were as follows: B70.462, B46.364, B70.532, Co740 and B51.129 in decreasing order. Varieties B46.364, Co740 and B70.462 (in decreasing order) presented sufficient fiber content. B46.364 and B70.462 presented the best features for industrial development in Cameroonian conditions.
