Cahiers Agricultures. Volume 15, Number 1, 64-71, Janvier-Février 2006 - Le coton, des futurs à construire, Étude originale

Résumé   Article gratuit

Author(s) : Hamady Djouara, Jean-François Bélières, Demba Kébé

Summary : Cotton is the “motor” of economic and social development in the farming zones of Southern Mali. Cotton production is increasing strongly, as seen in the number of cotton farms, the area cultivated and the fraction of agricultural revenue from cotton. This article uses the results of an agro-economic survey of a sample of farms in Mali, covering the decade from 1994 through 2003. It describes the changes in cotton farms and analyzes their ability to cope with the major decrease in cottonseed prices.

Keywords : vegetal productions, economy and rural development
