Summary : Evaluation of African cassava cultivars carried out in the Congo, identified genotypes with a good level of resistance to major cassava diseases and pests. Selected genotypes from local germplasm, vitroclones and introduced improved varieties were compared at Kindamba under conditions of competition with weeds. Clone MM92 produced 19.8 t/ha at 12 months and decreased to 14 t/ha and 13.4 t/ha at 18 and 24 months, respectively (Table 1). Clone MM78 increased yield from 7.6 t/ha at 12 months to 13.4 t/ha at 18 months and 13.9 t/ha at 24 months. Yield of erected clones NKAAKA, MM79 and MM92 decreased with time (Figure A) (15.1 t/ha, 10.9 t/ha and 10 t/ha at 12, 18 and 24 months) (Figure B). Yield of branched clones MM78, MVOUMINA and TMS30572 decreased with time (Figure A) (7.8 t/ha, 11.3 t/ha and 11.9 t/ha at 12, 18 and 24 months) (Figure B). Sanitized clones MM78 and MM92 yielded 13.7 t/ha at 12, 18 and 24 months while non-sanitized clones MVOUMINA, MM79 and NKAAKA yielded 11.7 t/ha, 9.8 t/ha and 9.2 t/ha at 12, 18 and 24 months (Figure B). The introduced improved variety TMS30572 gave the same yield as the non-sanitized branched clone MVOUMINA (10.8 t/ha and 11 t/ha at 18 and 24 months) while sanitized clones yielded more (Table 2). Whatever the habit of the clone (erected or branched) and under weed competition, sanitized clones yielded more than non-sanitized.
