Summary : This study, carried out from 1995 to 1997 within the framework of a joint research partnership between France and Québec, proposes methods and techniques of integrated management of resources and agrarian practices for a rational use of extensive areas of agricultural land, preserving soil (structures, fertility, infiltration) and water quality. The research concentrated on soil degradation, on the reduction of synthetic pollutants through a circumspect use of products of agricultural (manure or waste from cultivation) or non-agricultural origin (industrial sediment or urban waste).
The major methods used in both countries to eliminate waste (burial, incineration or treatment for further agricultural use) are considered together with the legislative aspects (in constant evolution). The authors propose a clean management system which could be put into practice for a better preservation of the quality of the environment. Setting up a spatial diagnosis of agro-environmental problems would also be useful for the management of agrarian landscapes. |
