Summary : The language structures of medical discourse have constraints related to the medical institution and to the approach of the medical profession. This language implies or requires cultural models that guide the way the patient considers the disease. Words referring to people (such as pronouns) in the patients'language are hints of their appropriation of this language, while the abundance of subjective words (adjectives, nouns, adverbs) will express their position. The way they speak of the disease (including the vocabulary used in battles), on the caregivers and on themselves reveal two things: their ability to manage information and the importance of language and words.
