Summary : Melancholia stands up to the test of timeOn the basis of two outpatient cases, we raise questions as to the current situation of melancholia, a disorder which seems to stand up to the test of time. While these two cases are a good illustration of the Freudian psychopathology described in Mourning and Melancholia, they also emphasise the phenomenon of incorporation and Cotard’s syndrome as a clinical “between two deaths”. The passage to chronic state of certain melancholia is also used to support certain clinical particularities.

Keywords : melancholia, psychoanalysis, bipolar disorders, Cotard, chronic state
