Summary : The fact of being “third generation” immigrants in France: the example of the grandchildren of Jews coming from PolandWhat do grandchildren do with the history and values of their grandparents when the latter have experienced immigration and undergone major ordeals? How are traumatisms and values transmitted within families from one generation to another? How do the descendents of immigrants view their own family history? How do they deal with the difficult responsibility of bearing witness to it? How do they construct their identity? This article aims to answer some of these questions by means of interviews with the grandchildren of Jewish grandparents who came to France from Poland, experiencing exile, the Second World War, the Holocaust and the historical upheavals of the second half of the 20th century.
