Summary : The main lipids of the skin are described and their action defined. The research worker could use the same lipids in formulation as essential fatty acids, ceramides. The efficiency of these products is important to limit the water loss from the skin and to synthesize the anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. These products are available on the market, and are extracted from the vegetable life. Others lipids are described as liposoms, liposoluble vitamins, unsaponifiables and their effects on the skin are very efficient. Surfactants as polyglyceryl esters, alkylpolyglucosides and surfactants with short fatty acids are natural and anti-irritant. Finally, the characteristics of the lipids in relation with the skin are defined.

Keywords : lipids, cosmetology, essential fatty acids, ceramides, liposomes, vitamins, unsaponifiables.
