The practice of radiopharmacy : specificities and particularities

Summary : Since December 8th, 1992, radiolabeled molecules administrated to the human beings for diagnosis or therapy are radiopharmaceutical drugs. Therefore, management, preparation, quality control and distribution of these medicines are under responsibility of a pharmacist who has been especially trained. From the experience or three of them in Paris’ hospitals, this article looks at the radiopharmacy in all its bearings and in particular, main differences between others activities of pharmacy at the hospital. This paper also presents several examples for radiolabeled drugs cost, preparation, control and adverse reactions to and defects in radiopharmaceuticals.
