Book written in french Chronic lymphoid leukemia is the most common form of leukemia affecting adults in the industrialised world, with an incidence of 12.8 cases per 100 000 inhabitants per year and a mean age of diagnosis of 65 years. Initially considered to be an indolent disorder, the way it progresses clinically varies greatly and no curative treatment exists. This raises the question of the choice of treatment to be administered with evaluation of the risk/benefit ratio. Indeed, much is to be gained from a better understanding of the physiopathology of the disorder, which would lead to identification of new therapeutic targets. In the course of the last ten years, considerable progress – particularly as regards a better understanding of the prognostic factors – has led to a new definition of the disease. This book is an expression of this new understanding. Written by specialists in the field, this monograph provides a summary of all the recent discoveries and provides an update on the new treatments available, many of which are still in the experimental phase. The information contained within these pages will serve as a practical guide for clinicians. ► One chapter devoted to atypical chronic lymphoid leukemia ► And another to Waldenström's disease whose differentiation from the other lymphoid proliferations has been made possible by the new genomic tools. ► The chapter on the French Hematology Society recommendations for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of CLL will be a practical guide for healthcare providers.
