This work provides a detailed update on the diagnostic, clinical and therapeutic advances available to practitioners caring for patients with this disease.
It also answers questions raised by patients themselves concerning their expectations in terms of quality of life and treatment outcomes.
With particular emphasis on the importance of early diagnosis, the authors separate localised cancers from the advanced forms and define the specific therapeutic strategies for each category, with a detailed description of each treatment type (radiotherapy, curietherapy, surgery and hormonotherapy).
The book also contains a long section devoted to managing the consequences of treatment and to quality of life. So-called "rescue" treatments are discussed in this section with all the therapeutic measures potentially improving the wellbeing of patients, particularly those helping to restore urinary continence and sexual function.
