A revolution has taken place in the treatment of thrombosis in the past 20 years. The various molecules used, and combinations of those molecules in some instances, especially in cardiology, the wide range of targets and pernicious effects make up a complex bank of data which must be fully understood by doctors prescribing treatment.
This book was written to provide an update on the main anti-thrombosis molecules currently in use, how they work, when and in what quantities they should be prescribed, possible side-effects and clinical and biological monitoring.
The book is divided into several chapters, each devoted to a different class of molecule: platelet function inhibitors, heparins, antivitamin K and thrombolytic agents.
Two chapters look more closely at changing conventions in treating cerebral ischemia and cardiology. Another chapter is devoted to new molecules and future prospects for treating and preventing thrombosis.
