Over the last 10 years, morbid obesity has become a public health problem in France and worldwide.

Bariatric surgery has been gaining momentum in France and the yearly number of interventions has tripled since 2006 to exceed 53,000 procedures in 2014. However, while surgery for obesity is currently widely diffused in French medical institutions, only half of the 356 French surgery centres performed bariatric activity in 2011 and only one intervention then represented more than 80% of their activity.

In parallel, one-quarter of centres having started this activity since 2007 was able to propose three different bariatric interventions.

These data pose the question of the level of expertise of centres and of prevention as well as the management of postoperative complications.

This book provides a global vision of the prevention and management of the current complications of obesity surgery.

Two prospective studies and one study of national data including more than 180,000 patients were used.
